"Blizzard of 2009"

(March 2, 2009) Meteorologist all week had been predicting snow for Atlanta on Sunday. The question was how much. What's amazing is that it was 70 degrees on Saturday. The original forecast called for rain changing to snow, with an insignificant accumulation, then 1-2 inches. The Weather Channel for several hours on Friday changed the forecast to just rain, then changed it back to rain changing to snow with an inch accumulation. The entire Sharp family would attend the Big Apple Circus at Stone Mountain at noon on Sunday, and what had started as rain mixed with sleet that morning changed to rain mixed with snow by the time we reached the circus. During the circus, it changed to all snow, and the winter weather advisory initially issued for Atlanta became a winter storm warning. Of course Kyle was happy because he knew that it probably meant there wouldn't be any school the next day. Driving back from the circus was like driving in a winter wonderland. The roads were okay, as the temperature never dropped below freezing. When we got home, Reagan got to see snow for the first time and Christian was able to build a snowman and make a snow angel, as he had when it snowed last year. Reagan of course would eat the snowman, much to Christian's displeasure! We ended up with about 3 inches of snow, which would melt nearly completely by the end of Monday.

2009 Big Apple Circus

(March 1, 2009)The Big Apple Circus along with Grandma the Clown rolled into town again for it's annual appearance at Stone Mountain Park. It's a much smaller circus than Ringling Brothers, but what it lacks in grandiose, it more than makes up in intimacy and entertainment. Excitement was in the air before the show, because what had started as rain in the early morning and changed over to heavy snow. We had front row seats and we could literally touch the performers from where we were. Unfortunately, they didn't allow flash photography, so I really couldn't take any pictures of any of the action. Christian and Reagan really enjoyed themselves. Anything that can keep Reagan still for over 2 hours has to be very entertaining! She particularly loved the dogs. The show was highly entertaining for everybody, but did a really good job at entertaining the children, as it always does.

Barnum & Bailey Circus 2009

(February 15, 2009) Dad, who is 68 going on 8, still loves the circus, and in fact, just finished "circus camp", treated the his children and grandchildren to front row seats at "The Greatest Show on Earth". Christian is really appreciating the circus now, and this would be Reagan's first real year to enjoy a circus, being she was only 7 months old at her last one! Christian would shake hands with the ringmaster and Reagan would get a kiss from him! I think the pictures will tell the whole story!
