Christian's Birthday Celebrations

(March 8-10, 2009) Christian had a long weekend of birthday celebrations. First Christian told Rhian and I that he wanted to have a birthday party at home with his friends from school and the neighborhood. Then while he was at Pap Pap's, he decided he wanted a birthday party at his school. I decided then we could do a party on the Sunday before his birthday and have one at his school on his birthday, which be on a Tuesday. My dad told Christian to come by his house after school on his birthday so that he could celebrate with cupcakes. I told Christian that we would just do the party at his school and a party at his Pap Pap's. My dad quickly interjected that we would also have a party at our house, and that he would have three birthdays. Of course, this made Christian very happy, and he told all his friends that he was having three birthdays, all the while holding three fingers up. Rhian had planned to take Monday and Tuesday off so that we could make sure that Christian had a busy birthday weekend. We started by having a birthday Christian on the Sunday before. We had a couple of his friends and family over at the house for cake and ice cream.

Christian would blow the candle out on his cake and would open several nice gifts while everybody ate cake.

On Monday, the day before his birthday, the whole family went to Stone Mountain in hopes of riding the train that travels around the mountain. Unfortunately the trains weren't running, but Christian decided he wanted to ride the cable car to the top of the mountain. This would be a new experience for everybody but myself. Rhian is deathly afraid of heights, but she agreed to go up since Christian wanted to.

The kids had fun running around on top of the mountain, which kept Rhian on edge because she was afraid they would fall off the mountain. The mountain is fenced where there are steep drop-offs, but my only concern was that there were some steep areas, and they would get too much momentum and fall. Reagan figured she could sit down and slide down were it was steep. Of course I would get lots of good pics.

On Tuesday Christian would celebrate his birthday at school. Christian had been excited about this all week and would say the names of all his friends at school that he wanted to attend.

Since we had cake for his birthday on Sunday, we brought a birthday cookie and the ice cream we had left. Christian would blow out his candle, and being the thoughtful boy that he is, made sure all his classmates had plates and napkins before he had his cookie and ice cream.

Christian and his classmates would enjoy the cookie and ice cream, and Christian would tell his friends that he had one more birthday later that day at his Pap Pap's.

We could go over to my parents house for the 3rd of his 3 birthdays. We would all go up to the school so Christian and his Pap Pap could fly a kite, and play on the playground.

We would get back to the house, and as the Sharp tradition has been since the late 70's, Dad would like the candles on the cake, and whomever's birthday it was, he would tell them in a stern voice to get upstairs and clean their mess. This scared Christian, because he really thought he was in trouble. Even after he saw his birthday candles lit, it took him a moment to recover.

He would blow the candles out on his cupcakes and would get another train with which to play, and he and Pap Pap would put together the train track for him to play with it.
